Veda goes to India !!!
My brother, Veda's mama was getting engaged on February 7th 2010. Veda and I made the trip on British Airways from Boston to Mumbai and back. We were in India for a week. During this time Veda met both her grandparents, her mamas (all but 1) her new maami and her great grand father. Veda enjoyed all the attention she received and expects it from her parents even now, 4 days after coming back.

Little Fashionista
Veda is going through a phase where she picks her clothes. She will cry if she doesn't like what she is going to wear, wiggle out of it and RUN !! Last week my aunt gave Veda a denim skirt, Veda refuses to wear the outfit because Kavya her one year old friend has something identical. Kavya wore the outfit two months ago in May, but Veda says "kavya dress" and refuses to wear it.
Yesterday she stopped my husband from wearing a shirt he had picked, then she picked another one for him and asked him to wear it.
Today morning Veda woke up and after wishing me good morning, she said "pretty dress mom, nice sweater, I like it sweater... mummy go office".
My mother said that Veda rejected 3 undies before picking the one that she wore after her bath today.
I hope that this phase ends soon. On the upside she picks cute combinations of clothes to wear.

I want to see monster
We were watching Harry Potter and the sorcerer's stone and the scene came where the troll enters the girl's bathroom. I wanted Veda to sleep so I said good night, you don't want to see the monster and I paused the movie. She replied saying "I want to see monster, put it monster". We had to change the topic of conversation and send her to bed.
My two year old is very brave, she protects and defends me sine April 2011. Anyone raises their voice and she will tell them "be nice", you lay a finger on her accidentally and you get to hear "be gentle".
Her favorite songs range from Achutham Keshavam, to Shiela ki Javani and rhymes such as wheels on the bus go round and round.

18 months .. my.. my....
From 21 inches to 32
you used to lie calmly,
.... now I run after you
my little munchkin you are growing so fast
Mom, Dad and several other words you say
you giggle, babble and independently play
I miss the cooing but I love the cuddling
Come winds, rain, snow or sun
I hope each day is better for my little one
When you aren't with me
I gaze at your pictures
I think of our games, songs and dances
Love you very much Vedu
Grateful that you gave me back my childhood
your innocence and cuteness
your naughtiness and impishness
everything you do or say
.. you keep me enthralled baby

Water baby
My daughter Veda loves to play in the water. She has had the joys of splashing in the beach at Gloucester, a lake in upstate New York, fountains in Downtown Boston, the Frog Pond in the Boston Commons and of course last but not the least in her blue tub. I still remember making her sit in her tub when she was 10 months old and she hated it. She wasn't feeling safe and stable then I guess, but things have changed since then. At 14 months she cries when I pull her out of her tub or a pond. She walks into fountains fully clothed before we can change her into her swim suit. She even loves bottles that squirt water when squeezed or spray jars.

Fun at 14 months
For a week or so now my daughter address me as ma :). It is awesome. She hugs my legs when I am standing and says ma.. ma.. She points at the toys or food she wants and says maa maa. She shakes her left to right vigorously indicating that she doesn't want something.
We have lots of fun together. We read books, play with blocks, finger puppets, stack cups, cuddle her soft toys and, we even dance together. I am sure if she was allowed she would cook with me. She starts bawling when I say NO and stops when she finds something interesting to do. ... she throws tantrums too. Guess we didn't have to wait for the terrible twos :). She loves to join me in the shower, sing in the water with me.
Her favorite body part is her Belly button, she refers to this as Bee-Bo thanks to Sandra Boynton's books. If she is wearing an outfit that doesn't allow her to see her Bee-Bo she will point at mine or my husband's.

Film songs and dancing
I enjoy listening to hindi and tamil movie songs and watching the movies too. It is in my genes, my parents and grandparents (and to my knowledge my great grand parents on my father's side) enjoyed movies too. Veda enjoys listening to the film songs and she is only a year old. When I play a catchy film song, if she is belted to her car seat or a rocker she wiggles her belly, if she is standing she bobs her head up and down and moves her butt up and down and sometimes side to side too. Her eyes light up with joy and she flashes her gorgeous dimples. It is fun to watch her dance and join her too :).
